HAMMERS STILL STRUGGLING

West Ham United suffered a 2-0 defeat against Manchester United during their latest Premier League encounter with Wayne Rooney scoring both goals for his club.

The first goal of the English striker arrived after 6 minutes had passed and the ball fell to the legs of Rooney when he launched a long range effort from over 40 yards away which went right into the net of West Ham’s goalkeeper Adrian San Miguel Del Castillo who was out of position and couldn’t do anything to deny Rooney from scoring his wonder-goal but according to Sam Allardyce, the goal should not have been allowed.

Sam Allardyce said: “It’s such a wonderful goal you’ve got to admire the finish. But to get off to a start like that having won the last three at home didn’t help. It was wonderful; you have to admire the talent. He didn’t even look up.

“If you look again though it’s probably a foul by Rooney. Rooney pushes James Tomkins and it’s difficult for the referee to see it. He stops Tomkins heading the ball. The assistant referee should have seen it but there you go. We didn’t get a couple today.”

This defeat puts West Ham United just a few points away from the bottom relegation zone and Allardyce wants his players to pick themselves up and get out of what he considers to be the danger zone.

“We’ve put ourselves in a little bit of danger again, there’s no doubt about that. In the two games we’ve got coming up we’ve got to make sure we perform like we did when we hit our good spell when we won four games on the trot,” Allardyce told the club’s official website.

Connor Wishes Kieron Dyer Luck

Terry Connor has sent his best wishes to Kieron Dyer about his future at Middleborough and he said that as long as Dyer does not return to bite them back he is really happy for him. The former England international came back to Portman Road to have a week in the training session with the senior squad of Town before he joins the Teessiders.

The 34 year old is excited to play for the new team and hopes that he would show the fans and the team how impressive he can be. Connor had lot good to say about Dyer as he was one of his favorite players during his time with the former club and he said that so far he has only spent some time with the youth time and only a session with the first team but there was a general session and he hopes that the players would get to know him in a short period of time.

When asked what Dyer’s activities have been so far he said that Dyer knows the academy director Bryan Klug very well and he also lives in the same area that is why he came and did some training on the first day itself. The other lads are delighted to this addition and hopes that he would be able to fit into the team really well. The one session which Dyer had with the first team made it clear that he wants to spend more time in the field and continue with the game.

Dyer will be returning soon to face his former club in a few days and he feels that it would be quite exciting to see how the fans react when he enters the pitch. The 50 year old coach was quite impressed with him in the session which took place and he thinks that Dyer would do well in his first match for the club.

TERRY COMEBACK?

Quite a few of the former England players want John Terry to make a comeback to the international arena after the impressive shows put up by him in the Barclays Premier League recently, but, the veteran defender has made it clear that he is not thinking about doing that.

Terry had played a big role for the Blues in their last league match against Manchester City. He was very solid playing at his usual position of centre-back during that game.

Terry had lost his way at Chelsea a little bit in the latter half of the 2012-13 Season, but, with the new manager coming in this season, he has found himself back in favour again and is producing the goods for the club.

As far as Terry’s international career is concerned, it had got over in 2012 and the main reason behind it was the player’s declining relationship with the Football Association.

Last year, when the England boss Roy Hodgson was asked about Terry, he had said, “It’s been more than a year now since John announced his retirement. We haven’t got his services in any of our qualifying matches, in spite of that, we have done well overall.”

“It’s important to continue going forward rather than looking back after having a bad game.”

These statements were made by Hodgson in November. At that point of time, Terry’s form wasn’t as good as it has been this year, but, still, it’s hard to assume that Hodgson would change his mind. He already has several exciting young defenders to choose from.

Terry played for the senior team of England for almost 10 years and won 78 caps in that duration. He also scored a few goals here and there for the Three Lions despite playing back.

LEEDS WANTED DYER

Former Newcastle United footballer Kieron Dyer has revealed that Leeds United tried to sign him on a number of occasions, but he has always rejected them in order to stay at Newcastle. Dyer was also subjected to transfer interest from Leeds even before he had moved to Newcastle.

Regarded as one of the best footballers in England, Dyer was the talk of the country during the early 2000’s. Leeds tried to sign him back in 1999 by paying as much as £ 15 million, but Newcastle were not ready to sell him. There was even talk of a then-British transfer record fee of £ 20 million exchanging hands.

Newcastle, however, managed to retain the services of Dyer. Leeds then managed to slip consistently down the divisions in an incredible turn of fate. The two clubs will be meeting against each other in the fourth round of the Capital one cup. Ahead of the match, Dyer said that there was a lot of rivalry between the two clubs. He also produced his best when playing against Leeds despite the opposition fans giving him a lot of stick.

In the latest match between the two clubs, Dyer expects a close encounter. He, however, says that Newcastle will manage to get better out of Leeds.

“There was always something about me and Leeds! There was always plenty of spice. Leeds tried to sign me at the same time as Newcastle. That made it a game I really relished. I remember we signed Jonathan Woodgate from Leeds and I said it was about time he joined a ‘real club’. The Leeds fans went mad at the time. I received plenty of stick when I went to Elland Road. They were my favourite team to play against. I always did well against them,” said Dyer.

DYER RETIRES

Former England and Newcastle United midfielder Kieron Dyer has finally announced his retirement from football after several years of struggling with injury problems. Dyer was once regarded as one of the finest midfielders in the England squad.

His explosive pace coupled with incredible quality meant that he was closer to becoming one of the best in the world. However, his explosive pace also caused him a lot of problems on the injury front. He has suffered numerous injury problems –primarily related to his hamstring – in the last five years.

As a result, he has been slowly climbing down the football ladder. He has now brought his 17-year-old football career to an end after failing to find a new club following his departure from QPR.

During this period, he has also featured 33 times for the national team. His enormous injury problems have meant that the 34-year-old has managed just 25 starts for four clubs in the last six years. Perhaps, his best spell in football came during his time at Newcastle. Dyer has revealed that he has decided to bring an end to his career because he thought it was the right time to, while he also expressed his non-interest in playing in leagues like MLS and Middle East.

“Since I went up to Newcastle, I’ve been all over the country and I haven’t really had too much quality time with my kids and now I feel that it’s the perfect time. I just think it’s the time. I don’t want to move to America, I don’t want to move to Dubai, they were some of the offers I’ve been getting. I want to stay in Ipswich and spend quality time with my kids. It’s got nothing to do with injuries, nothing to do with money, it’s just I’m content with life,” said Dyer.

NO EXTENSION

The manager of Middlesbrough FC, Tony Mowbray, has said that Kieron Dyer’s contract will not be extended by the club next season.

Dyer had signed for Middlesbrough only at the start of this year for six months. He has so far featured for them in 9 matches and has scored a couple of goals.

The Middlesbrough management doesn’t seem to be impressed with what Dyer has done so far for them in the second half of the season. So, they will release the English midfielder at the end of this season.

When asked about the extension of Dyer’s contract, Mowbray said, “No, we are not looking to extend his contract. Our aim is to build a young squad and we will be signing some of the younger guys during the transfer window.”

“It has been brilliant to work with Kieron. He has been absolutely fantastic not only during matches, but, off the ground as well. He has entertained all of us during his tenure here. He is a very popular character in the camp and he will be really missed.”

Mowbray also made it clear that Josh McEachran and Sammy Ameobi who are currently playing for Middlesbrough on loan will go back to their respective parent clubs at the end of this season.
McEachran and Ameobi are the contracted players of Chelsea and Newcastle United respectively.
McEachran has been a regular member of Middlesbrough starting XI this season. He has so far played 38 matches for the club.

When asked whether these two players would stay at Middlesbrough or return to their parent clubs, Mowbray said, “There is a good possibility that they will be going back. I am not announcing that officially. I will have to talk to the managers of those two clubs before making any official announcement. But, as things stand now, I think they will return.”

DYER SIGNS FOR BORO

Kieron Dyer has signed for Middlesbrough. The England international completed his move to Middlesbrough on the last day of the transfer window.

Dyer was released by his previous club Queens Park Rangers in January. Since then, he had been training with the Ipswich Town team.

Dyer played for his previous club QPR for a couple of years. But, he struggled a lot with fitness problems during those two years. He managed to make just 5 appearances for QPR.

After signing Dyer, the manager of Middlesbrough Tony Mowbray said, “Kieron trained with our squad yesterday and his fitness is fine. He looked sharp during the training session.”

“He has had quite a few injury issues in the last 6 years, but, at this point of time, his fitness is really good. I saw him playing for QPR last month and he was in good nick. He still has a lot of football left in him.”

“I worked with Kieron when he was playing for Ipswich Town. He was a young man at that time, but, he had a got a great temperament even at that age.”

“Some people told me that it would be a big risk to bring in Kieron as his fitness has really been poor in the last few years. But, I don’t want to have a look at his past fitness records. I know that his fitness is good currently and that’s the most important thing.”

When Dyer himself was asked about his new club, the midfielder said, “After leaving QPR, a few clubs approached me, but, when I talked to Tony Mowbray, I felt that this is the club which I should join.”

Dyer is expected to play his first match for Middlesbrough against Ipswich Town on Saturday.

DYER MAY MISS OUT

The QPR manager Harry Redknapp has revealed that he is not sure whether the former Newcastle and West Ham United midfielder Kieron Dyer will be included in the squad that will be submitted for the next six months of the Premier league season.

The Premier league clubs are allowed to name predefined squads for a period of six months. This may include any number of young players, but the senior players are limited to just 25. Kieron Dyer has suffered a lot of injury problems in recent years, which have limited him to making only a handful of appearances for QPR and his former club West Ham.

He recently played in the match against Manchester United, but it was his only game since September. The manager Harry Redknapp has also said that he is right now getting treatment for his current problem, which means that he will not be selected for the match during the weekend. These persistent problems with injuries are likely to prevent Kieron Dyer by being named in the 25 man squad for the next six months of the Premier league. Harry Redknapp failed to confirm the same, but it is a thought to be the case because the manager is already pursuing a number of transfer targets.

“He’s injured. He might be an option if he’s fit, but he’s not. He’s having treatment at the moment,” said Harry Redknapp ahead of the weekend’s match with Newcastle. The away trip to Newcastle is an extremely difficult proposition to get three points for the club, but they go into the match on the back of the recent conference given by the victory over Fulham. The match against Fulham ended in the first victory for the club this Premier league campaign, which also lifted them off the foot of the table.

BOWEN BACKS PLAYERS

The QPR assistant manager Mark Bowen has said that he wants the QPR players to get angry about the current league position, which he hopes that will turn around the season for the struggling London team.

Despite spending a lot of money on several high profile players like Park Ji sung and José Bosingwa, QPR have found it difficult to get the first win of the season under the manager Mark Hughes. The former Manchester city and Fulham manager has come under intense pressure, and he is not expected to last long in the job if results do not improve before Christmas.

Even though he has had the public backing of the owner Tony Fernandes, it is seriously thought that the Malaysian is considering other replacements if results do not improve. As a result of the winless run that now stretches to 10 games, QPR find themselves just one place above the bottom of the table. They were not expected to be in a relegation fight let alone just one place above the bottom of the table. The QPR manager Mark Hughes has said that it would be a catastrophe if the club were to go down, but he would do anything to prevent that from happening.

“They held their hands up and took it on board and we will work at it to make sure we are better next time. We encouraged them to point a few fingers and put demands on them. I want them to be a bit more angry and demanding of each other. People talk about Harry Redknapp and this and that. The fact is he took over Southampton in 2005 as the big saviour and he took them down,” said the QPR assistant manager ahead of this weekend’s encounter with Stoke city, who are the draw specialists.
